After seven years of training at some of the U.K's leading art institutions (Loughborough College of Art and Design. Manchester Polytechnic, and U.M.I.S.T.) Brian lectured part-time in Drawing Design and Constructed Textiles whilst simultaneously freelancing in Textile Design ,chiefly for the American market. His career for the following 25 years was spent designing for the Yorkshire textile industry, fully utilising his skill and passion for colour and texture: Throughout that period he continued to paint, occasionally exhibiting and successfully selling his work.
Since 2020 he has committed all of his time to painting..
He has paintings in many private collections throughout the U.K, Europe and the United States.
Brian was elected an exhibiting member of the prestigious Leeds Fine Artists; formed in 1874 it is one of the oldest art bodies in the U.K.
Burton states:
" There is a distinction between paintings 'of', 'from' and 'for' the landscape; mine are most definitely 'for' as I truly believe I am returning some of the spiritual energy which I receive when reacting with the landscape back to Nature who inspires me to create these images"
"Visceral and atmospheric my paintings, chiefly in acrylic on paper, are always the result of immersive study and sketching. Abstracted and distilled they reflect the sublime elemental Yorkshire landscape.
I see myself very much in the tradition of British Romantic Painters."
